About GAIN
GreenAI is one of the first initiatives in developing web-based applications for real time monitoring of carbon footprint of AI and ML models.
Rather than expanding it to a tech start-up we decided to make it a non-profit initiative for spreading awareness on Sustainable AI and thus GAIN was born.
GreenAI has won several accolades from UKRI, British Science Foundation and Intel.
Why Sustainable AI?
Data centers housing AI and ML models consume about 200 TWh per year, which is equivalent to the energy consumption of the entire United Kingdom. The average person in a developed country generates 16.4 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions in a year. It is estimated that the carbon footprint of popular LLMs is roughly that of the annual carbon footprint of 35 and more individuals.

GreenAI employs AI to accurately determine the carbon emission of any ML model and can help in reducing and optimizing the emissions of ML models
